How to configure Netgear Wifi Extender Setup?

The idea behind the Netgear Wifi Extender Setup is to provide a strong network throughout your home. Essentially, Netgear Extender Setup connects to your existing network and gives you a strong Wifi connection. Also, these setups are budget-friendly so that one can choose according to his pockets.

Before you initiate setting up your extender, note these requirements for the setup.

  • A router with an existing network.
  • Working power socket
  • An Ethernet Cable
  • PC or Smartphone

Let’s get you started with the configuration of your Netgear Extender Wifi Setup. There are two ways to set up your extender on an existing network-

  • With WPS
  • With Ethernet Cable

We will cover both of these methods. But first, make sure to check that-

1. you have assembled your Netgear Extender Setup properly.

2. the extender is plugged in correctly in the power socket to avoid system shutdown during the configuration. The power LED should be green.

3. the extender and router are placed in the same room or area of your home.

4. you have an existing network.

5. you have an internet browser installed on your system. Also, you should prefer having more than one internet browser. If one internet browser is not compatible with accessing the login portal, you can try the other one.

After you have checked all of these, follow these instructions to configure your Netgear Extender-

Configuration with WPS-

1. Firstly, look for the WPS button on the extender and then press it. After that, wait for the WPS LED to turn solid green.

2. Subsequently, press the WPS button on the router. If the WPS LED is not green, then try this process again.

3. Once the extender has connected to the router’s network. The Router Link LED will also blink solid green.

4. After connecting to the router’s network, the extender will create its network with the EXT extension.

5. So once it is ready, you could start your PC or phone. After you have done it, try to check for the extender network with the help of your device.

6. Moving on further, connect your device to the extender network. Again, you will have to use the same credentials that you must have used for the router network to connect before.

7. When you have connected the device to the extender network, you will need to unplug your extender and move it to the preferred portion of your house.

8. You can choose the location of your house as per your choice. But we recommend that you do it, where Wifi signals are usually weak.

9. Lastly, plug in the extender again.

Configuration with the Ethernet cable-

To configure your router manually, you will need an ethernet cable.

1. First, you would need to take the ethernet cable and connect its one end in the router’s ethernet port and the second end in the ethernet port of your extender.

2. Ensure that the extender has plugged in during this process and the power LED is solid green.

3. After setting up a working ethernet connection between the router and extender, you will need to open your device.

4. In the very next step, you will have to launch a web browser and type mywifiext.net in the search bar.

5. Hit Enter, and then you will be directed to the login page.

6. Next, you will have to enter your username and password in the input box. Remember that you will have to use the same username and password as the router’s login details.

7. Continuing with the process, you’ll see the Extender Wizard will open.

8. Now, you will be able to do the settings for your extender network as per your preference. And to apply the settings, save the changes.

9. Moving on further, you will need to unplug the extender and then move it to the desired place.

10. Finally, after selecting the location, plug in the extender once again.

With this, you have done the configuration of your extender.

Furthermore, after configuration, you have to do the following steps to complete the setup.

When you are done with the configuration and finding the location to plug in the extender-

1. Firstly, check for the power LED. If it is green, then check for the router link.

· The router LED should turn solid green. Otherwise, you will have issues with the Wifi signals.

· If your router link LED is amber or red, then you can try moving your extender in the router’s network range.

· Keep changing the location of the extender until the router link LED turns green.

2. When the router LED turns solid green, connect your device to the extender network again.

· After connecting your device to the extender network, check for the device LED on the extender.

· If it turns green, then the connection is good. Otherwise, try bringing your device and extender close.

Amber and red LED certainly indicate poor and no connection, respectively. Thus it is important that these LEDs turn green to complete the setup and be operational.

In addition, after the setup, you can opt for the firmware updates for better performance of your Netgear Extender. Use Netgear Genie to check for updates.

Upgrading Firmware with the help of Netgear Genie-

  • Login to your admin account first, but if you don’t have an account yet, then create one.
  • Then, search for the Firmware Upgrade option in the Settings option.
  • Further, select the Firmware Upgrade option to download the updates.
  • After that, install the updates. The extender may reboot itself to install the updates.
